Also a Fan of the Polybags

After a few weeks of neglecting my collection, I was finally able to buy some new minifigs.  The last minifig I bought came in a polybag.  That is why I bought myself some more polybags.  The polybag is proving to be a cheaper way to collect minifigures.

The new additions to my minfig collection came from three polybags, the 30310 Arctic Scout, the 30111 The Lab, and the 30302 Spider-Man Glider.

The 30310 Arctic Scout is part of the Lego City theme with an Arctic subtheme.  The polybag contains the Arctic Scout minifigure and a small mini-plane.  This is my first minifig from the City theme.  The minifig is quite nice with the helmet that has a removable visor.  The mini-plane is not that great since the build feels a little fragile, but it does have some nice components.

The 30111 The Lab is a polybag set from the Harry Potter theme.  The polybag contains a Harry Potter minifigure and a cabinet of potion bottles.  This is my first Harry Potter minifig.  The minifigure is a nice additon to my collection since it is a very popular character.  As for the other contents of the polybag, I'm not as excited.  The potion bottles could probably be useful when I start making MOCs.

The 30302 Spider-Man Glider is part of the Lego Marvel Super Heroes theme.  The polybag includes a Spider-Man minifigure and a glider.  With Batman as my favorite DC superhero, Spider-man is my favorite superhero from Marvel.  So, I'm quite excited to have this minifig.  As for the glider, it is a different story.  I think Lego could have created a better-looking glider.

I hope Lego releases more polybags in the future.  I will definitely be on the look-out for those polybags.

To Review or Not To Review

Before I started this blog, I had to think a lot whether to do reviews or not.  Then, there was the question of whether to review both sets and minifigures.  Reviewing only minifigures would be in-line with the main topic of this blog which is collecting minifigures.  However, I do buy Lego sets to get specific minifigs, and the cost of the set does affect the overall worth of the minifig.  I might just as well include a review of the set.

So, the question now is when do I do my first review.  Writing a review would be a lot more "work" than simply chronicling the latest minifigure additions to my collection.

From Blind Packs to the Polybags

Buying the Lego Minifigures series blind packs in my opinion is the cheapest way to collect minifigs.  Another cheap way to collect minifigs is buying the minifigure polybags.  The advantage of buying the polybags is that the polybags provide a way to buy the minifigures that are part of the licensed themes.  The polybags are basically like mini sets.  Most of the polybags have a minifigure with some small vehicle or some small equipment also included.

When I bought the Lego Minifigures Series 6 set the other day, I also bought the Lego The Lone Ranger polybag 30260 Lone Ranger's Pump Car.  The polybag included a Lone Ranger minifigure and a small pump car.  This is my first minifigure from the The Lone Ranger theme.  As for the pump car, I don't know if it will fit on the train tracks that come with Lego train sets.

I hope to buy more polybags in the future to add more minifigures from the different Lego themes.

A Series and a Movie, The Minifigures Kind

A week has passed since the last additions to my minifig collection.  So, it was time once again to scout for other minifigs.  Within an hour of looking around, I was able to buy two complete sets of Lego Minifigures series.

I was able to buy the complete set of the Lego Minifigures Series 6.  This series was released in the first half of 2012.  Since this set is almost three years old, I bought them as a set with each minfigure already out of their blind packs and sold in individual transparent plastic bags.

The second set that I was able to buy was the Lego Minifigures The LEGO Movie Series.  This series was released early this year just before the movie "The LEGO Movie" was released in theaters.  The characters in this series can be seen in the movie.

Even though I bough my niece  a couple of the blind packs early this year, I never bought one for myself.  So  now, instead of buying individual blind packs, I just bought the entire set.  I was able to buy the set in pre-determined blind packs, so no problem with getting duplicates.

Thirty-two new additions to my minifigures collection coming from a normal series and a series with a movie.  A nice haul to say the least.

Trust the Force

Of all the licensed themes of Lego, I would say that the Star Wars theme has the most number of different box sets.  The Star Wars theme was introduced in 1999 and will continue to be used by Lego in the foreseeable future.  Numerous sets are released under the Star Wars theme every year.

Being a fan of the Star Wars movies, TV series, and video games, it was only a matter of time before I had to get my hands on some Lego Star Wars minifigures.  The Star Wars universe in the movies and TV series is full of characters.  Those characters are the source of all these Lego Star Wars minifigures, and there are a lot of them.

When I went to the store the other day to buy the Lego Minifigures Series 12 set, I was quite in a hurry since I had some other chore to attend to.  Together with the Series 12 set, I bought my first Lego Star Wars box set.  Since I was indeed in a rush, I just picked the cheapest set available.

What I got for myself then was the Lego Star Wars box set 75035 Kashyyyk Troopers.  Not a great set to start my Star Wars minifigs collection, but the set did include four minifigs, two 41st Elite Corps Trooper minifigs and two 41st Kashyyyk Clone Trooper minifigs.  The set also included a swamp speeder which is nice.

That particular box set is a battle pack that you can use if you want to form a Lego Star Wars clone army.

So, I have two new minifigs to add to my collection and I now have my first two duplicate minifigs.  Getting a Luke, Obi Wan, or Darth Vader minifig would have been a better start.  I'll just have to "trust the force" that I'll eventually have those minifigs.

Fan of the Blind Packs

After getting the entire set of The Simpsons minifigures, I decided that I will get the complete set of the next series of the Lego Minifigures in the same way.

The Lego Minifigures Series 12 is now available and this meant that I had to visit my new favorite places, the toy shops.  After looking around for the best price for an entire set, I finally bought the complete Series 12 set.  I bought the set in the same way as the Simpsons set.  I bought all 16 Series 12 minifigs as a set, with the contents of each blind pack already determined.  The important thing is that there are no duplicates.

With the 16 blind packs, I now have 16 more minifigs in my collection.  The blind packs are indeed cheaper than buying the box sets, and I'm now a fan of them.

Back to the Future

I was always a big fan of the Back to the Future trilogy.  So, coming across the 21103 The DeLorean Time Machine Set got me excited.  I was in the middle of buying the The Simpsons minifigures when I noticed the box set.

The Back to the Future set is a CUUSOO set.  It is the 4th project to be made under the partnership of LEGO and CUUSOO.  That partnership has now been integrated into Lego called the LEGO Ideas.  For more information on LEGO Ideas, please visit their website.

A nice thing about this set is that the DeLorean car can be made to resemble the DeLorean car featured in each of the three Back to the Future movies.

Aside from the cool DeLorean car, the box set also included minifigs of Marty McFly and Doc Emmett Brown.  I really wanted to include the two minifigs in my collection so I just bought the box set.

The Not So Blind Simpsons Blind Packs

With my collection centered on minifigs, always buying box sets would be too expensive. So, Lego Minifigure Blind Packs is the way to go. But since these are blind packs, you never know which minifig character you are getting. Getting duplicates from the blind packs will also be expensive. There are two ways to get around this, either you hone your feeling skills to determine the minifig inside the packs before buying them or just buy them from shops that have already labeled the individual packs.

The Lego Simpsons Minifigures was released around May of this year. So, the Simpsons minifigure blind packs are the most current of the different minifigure series from Lego. However, the Lego Minifigure Series 12 is slated to be released in a few days.

To avoid getting duplicates, I made my life easier by just buying from a shop that already sold all 16 Simpsons minifigs as a set.  I wanted to avoid getting duplicate minifigs this early.  Thanks to the shop, I was not so blind in buying the blind packs.

With the Simpsons minifigs, my collection is now a whole lot bigger.

Starting a Minifig Collection

As excited as I was to get my minfig collection started, choosing which minifig character to get first is proving to be quite a task. There are just so many with all the themed Lego sets available. So, after a few days of looking around the different toy stores, I decided to go with a superhero character, the Batman minifig. For me, Batman is the best comics superhero character since he is just a man with no superhuman ability.

After deciding which minifig to get, the next thing was figuring out how to go about getting the minifig. Since there were no individual Batman minifig for sale, I had to get it from a box set. Individual minifigs can actually be bought from resellers online and some toy shops. But, I wanted the satisfaction of opening a brand new box. I finally decided to get the Lego Super Heroes box set 76012 Batman: The Riddler Chase.

The set proved to be a good start to my collection. The set included three minifigs, a Batman minifig, a Flash minifig, and a Riddler minifig.

Aside from the minifigs, the set also came with two Lego vehicles, a very nice Batmobile and a green dragster.

Looking at the set, I can only smile and think that my collection is definitely off to a good start.

Those Colored Bricks

After buying The Lego Movie blind packs and the different Mixel series the past year to give to my niece as gifts, it suddenly hit me that I miss building stuff.  I was always a big fan of Lego, so getting hooked on those colored bricks was a no-brainer.  But what caught my interest the most are the minifigs.  There are just so many unique and fascinating characters depicted by the minifigs, which is why I think collecting them will be fun.
